The 'Typing Tournament' typing games
- Back to Typing Tournament homeWhy Typing Games?
When learning to type, success and increased typing speed only come through keyboard practise. Practising typing just a screen full of words of letters can get very boring. A typing game can help to make the typing practise more enjoyable but the typing game must be fun.Typing Tournament uses 3 typing games.
Castle Siege
Words move up screen. If word reaches the top of the castle wall then castle is invadered. number of invasions possible varies with level. Words are destroyed by typing each word correctly.Powder Keg
A dragon is lighting fuses with his fiery breath. Each powder keg has its own keyboard letter. Hit the correct keys to aim your water bombs and put out the fuses before it's too late.Dragon Chase!
Type furiously! It's that dragon again and he's after you! Type your way through the passage of text to stay ahead of him and keep from getting a toasting (escape to the tower!).Each typing game above allows the player to practise the keys learnt to that stage of the typing tutor.
A typing game must be fun
All too often typing games become boring either because the player can easily win the game or vice versa - the game is just too hard or because there is no real game involved - it is just practise with graphics.Getting the right balance is very important. The game must not be too easy or the player will get bored - there must be a challenge but one in which the player believes they can succeed.
In Typing Tournament the 3 games are designed in such a way that players must be typing at a speed which will enable them to pass the test for that level. Players always feel that they can beat the game 'next time'
